Patriotism in Six Parts

1.
Sew all the flags together
make quilts for our homeless
better yet, pool those dollars
feed the hungry in 50 states

2.
voices insistent on vengeance
never raised against the bombing
of Sudan, domestic violence,
the death of Diallo

3.
three days later
the mayor urged New Yorkers
to visit theaters and restaurants

4.
a frightened Indian
mistaken for an Arab
tells me his Uncle and Cousin
died in the World Trade Center

5.
Did someone say, "oil?"

6.
The "made in the USA" label
sometimes shows up
where you least expect it
